About Amy
| Amy Alexander has been teaching with Creative Music for Schools for 3 years, and from Term 2, 2010, will be teaching from her home in Reservoir.
Beginning on the piano/keyboards at the age of 5, Amy completed VCE music (group & solo), the Diploma in Music Performance (Jazz/Popular) at NMIT, and is currently in her 3rd year of the Bachelor of Applied Music (Composition) at Box Hill Institute. After living in the UK for 7 years, performing in bands and running her own songwriting course at Lancaster University, she returned to Melbourne in 2007 to continue her career as a singer/songwriter, performer, composer and teacher. While her principal instrument is piano/keyboard, she is a multi-instrumentalist (keyboards, vocals, guitar, ukulele and flute) and has a broad range of skills and knowledge, including music theory, ear training, arranging and composition. In 2009, she won the Darebin Music Feast Songwriter's Awards for her song 'Hill's Hoist'. Amy encourages fun and creativity in her students, and motivates students who wish to pursue exams, such as AMEB. She provides opportunities for students to perform at a concert at the end of each year. Amy also has a keen interest in the Alexander Technique, and helps students to achieve optimum and relaxed use of the body whilst playing music. Adults welcome! |
